About Project Bundle-Up
I love my NEW coat!
For more than twenty-one years, The Salvation Army and WTAE-TV
Channel 4 in Western Pennsylvania have been working together to
provide children and seniors with new winter outerwear through
Project Bundle-Up.
Each year hundreds of volunteers are paired with needy recipients
to share a special shopping experience. Project Bundle-Up means
so much more than a just a new coat. It brings a sense of love
and self-worth to individuals who may never have the opportunity
to choose something for themselves or be treated to a special
day that is all about them. And, it may have even more benefit
to the community minded volunteer who wants to make a difference.
Bundle-Up provides both the child or senior and the shopping
partner with a sense of caring, love and warmth; both inside and
outside.
Many caring individuals, businesses and organizations help to
make the dream of a new coat a reality. Members of the Pittsburgh
Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins organization
routinely donate their time to take children shopping. Eckerd’s
"Celebration of Lights" at Hartwood Acres raises a significant
portion of the Bundle-Up budget. WTAE-TV Channel 4 sponsors an
annual holiday telethon and auction. Other corporate partners
include: Citizen’s Bank; Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield; Macy’s;
Kennywood; Nemacolin Woodlands; Wal-Mart and Daily's Juice.

Project Bundle-Up has a unique way for children to have a direct
impact on helping others. "Bounce for Bundle-Up" is an exciting
fundraiser designed especially for kids. Participants ask sponsors
to pay for each bounce of a ball during a school or group event.
Not only is "Bounce" a great physical challenge, but it also gives
children a sense of compassion and stewardship.
Since its inception, Project Bundle-Up events and donors have
raised more than nine million dollars have served nearly 200,000
recipients. Yet, despite these impressive numbers, thousands of
children and elderly throughout Western Pennsylvania linger on an
ever-lengthening waiting list.
